Gail W. Stewart
Ms. Gail Stewart is senior counsel with Baker Botts L.L.P. Prior to her retirement as partner in December 2023, she served as chair of the law firm’s Executive Compensation and Employee Benefits Practice. Her public and private company and individual clients rely on her advice and expertise on issues ranging from executive compensation arrangements, ERISA litigation, tax, and employee benefits.
Ms. Stewart earned a BBA from Baylor University in 1980 and a JD from Baylor Law School in 1983. She has been named as one of “Houston’s Top 50 Women in Law” by the Texas Diversity Council, is recognized in Band 1 for Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation by Chambers USA, and is a member of the State Bar of Texas and a Fellow on the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel.
Ms. Stewart is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Baylor College of Medicine, is a director of the National Association of Corporate Directors, Texas Tricities Chapter, and has served as vice chair of the ABA’s Tax Section Subcommittee on Federal Securities Law. In addition, she has served on the Board of Trustees of independent Christian college preparatory and lower schools.
Ms. Stewart was married to the late Terry Stewart, who earned a BBA from Baylor in 1980. She is married to Stephen Hastings and has two daughters: Kelsey (Stewart) Pittman and Jillian Stewart (BA ’23). She is a member of River Oaks Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.
